A1 Service (Ayrshire Bus Owners) in the 1980's and 1990's
A1 Service, the trading name of the Ayrshire Bus Owners Cooperative, was one of Scotland's best loved bus operations. A trip to view what was operating the busy Kilmarnock - Ardrossan corridor and the Three Towns Locals was always worth while as an outsider could never predict what would come next. Each owner managed to put their own stamp on their individual fleet with the co-op and there's little doubt that latterly, some took more care of their fleet than others. Crew operation was another attraction, a feature that survived into Stagecoach ownership on main line day time operation. Ailsas, Atlanteans, Citybuses, Dominators, Fleetlines, Leopards, Nationals, Oympians, Tigers............all featured during the period covered, carrying the much loved blue and cream livery.
This collection covers the 1980's and 1990's up until the transfer of the business to Stagecoach; a separate collection covers the early Stagecoach A1 days.
